In a sweeping legal move that could reshape disability rights in America, seventeen states have filed a lawsuit challenging Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, a cornerstone of disability protection legislation.
While the suit initially targets recent additions regarding gender dysphoria, the states' ultimate goal appears more far-reaching – seeking to strike down the entire five-decade-old anti-discrimination law as unconstitutional.
The 17 states are Texas, Alaska, Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Louisiana, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, South Carolina, South Dakota, Utah, and West Virginia.
What can you do?
